Impact of gender inequality in education and employment on economic growth

Abstract: There are several reasons to be concerned about the existing gender inequality, which affect different aspects of quality of life such as education, healthcare, employment and remuneration. From welfare and equality perspectives, inequality becomes a pressing issue, which leads to the decrease of benefits and is also considered as one form of the social inequality. Meanwhile, some believe in the positive impacts of gender inequality on different issues, especially on the economic growth. This paper uses panel data regression to examine the impacts of gender gap on employment and education on economic growth. The findings have shown that gender inequality brings negative impacts on economic growth in both short and long terms.
