Workshop on promoting the implementation of decent work in electronic enterprises in Vietnam

          Approved by leaders of Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, on the morning of 31st January 2018, at Vietnam Trade Union Hotel, Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs and Department of Employment in cooperation with Department of Work Safety and Inspectorate held a workshop on “Promoting the implementation of decent work in e-enterprises in Vietnam”.

Purposes of the workshop was to discuss on the solution to promote the implementation of decent work in the e-enterprises, including such issues as: the use of labor utilization, the implementation of labor standards, labor safety, working environment, the solutions to promote the decent work and roles of related agencies.

Participants of the workshop included the presentatives of Ministries, sectors, social organizations, research institutes, universities, local departments and domestic press/news agencies.

In the opening remarks, Director of ILSSA - Mr. Dao Quang Vinh said: In the recent years, electronic industry has been quickly developed and become one of the most important sector of Vietnam’s economy. The growth rate of electronic industry had dramatically increased from 7.4% in 2011 to 23.4% in 2014 and reached 32.5% in 2015. This is the largest export sector in Vietnam since 2012 which import-export turnover reached 22.9 billion US dollars and reached more than 57 billion US dollars in 2015 (an increase of 57.46% compared to 2014). In 2017, it reaches 71 billion US dollars, which is 2.5 times higher than textiles sector and 5 times higher than footwear sector.

The new technology wave has strongly and rapidly affected the enterprises in electronic industry in several aspects, for example: technological innovation, competitive improvement, productivity improvement, reduction of production costs, attraction of high quality human resources and so on. Thus, it has certain impacts of workers. Sustainable development becomes the leading strategy of enterprises. Apart from investing in production development, it is important to ensure decent work.

“Decent work sums up the aspiration of people in their working lives for: opportunity and income, for rights, for voices and recognition; for family stability and personal development; for the equality. It reflects the concerns of the Government, employees and employers, those who will jointly create the unity for tripartie dialogue”.

             After the presentations, there were many comments, recommendations and solutions to promote the decent work in electronic enterprises in Vietnam, including the use of labor utilization, the implementation of labor standards, labor safety, working environment and the roles of related stakeholders.
